On 23 August 2023, the Department of East Asian Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, and the Faculty of Social Sciences, Srinakharinwirot University (SWU), co-organised an academic seminar on Thai foreign policy on CLMV and the Mekong sub-region at the Faculty of Social Sciences, SWU. The speakers consisted of two academics from SWU, namely Associate Professor Vorasakdi Mahatdhanobol and Professor Dr. Kullanan Kunthic, and four diplomats from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, namely, Mr. Komkrich Chongbunwatana, Director of East Asia Division 2, Mr. Sa-ngopkarn Moungthong, Counsellor, Ms. Pichayanin Wangchalabovorn, Counsellor, and Mr. Tharind Lertsukekasem, Second Secretary.

The seminar aimed to promote better understanding of Thai foreign relations with CLMV countries and the Mekong sub-region, and to raise public awareness regarding developments in the East Asia region. More than 120 attendees, including academics, lecturers and students, joined the seminar.

This seminar was a public diplomacy initiative by Department of East Asian Affairs. It is in line with Thailand’s 5S Foreign Affairs Masterplan on Synergy that aims to promote people-oriented foreign policy.
